Strengths at Work: Protecting with Rosa
To Rosa, Protecting is about creating a safe space for members of her team, who as East Lothian District Nursing clinical and support workers, can face demanding and stressful conditions at work.
In her Strengths at Work video, Rosa says that the key to her signature strength is consciously finding time to ask individual team members how they are and to talk through parts of their job that may leave them feeling stressed or unhappy.
One example is when nurses must console grieving relatives where Rosa helps nurses recognise and appreciate how well they have in fact handled a stressful situation which may have been hard to see at the time.
Rosa says that Protecting is about time spent talking to her colleagues in between doing things that workplaces traditionally recognise as “the important stuff”. While not visible, Protecting is the leadership quality that maintains the cohesion of her team.
In Strengths at Work, our clients and colleagues tell us in their own words (and webcams!) how they use their strengths to succeed. Rosa signature strengths were identified by Learning to Flourish’s Spark your DRIVE® online performance psychology questionnaire.
Strengths are the traits at the core of our personalities that motivate us and Spark your DRIVE helps people understand and use their signature strengths to push aside blockers such as a fear of mistakes, imposter syndrome and loss of self-belief.
Are you a business, school or medical professional interested in learning about your own strengths or telling us how you use yours? Email us at strengthswork@learningtoflourish.co.uk for a link to the questionnaire.
